Philmont Training Center History
The first PTC office was built in 1943, and was used to house conference participants. Scouting America expanded the facilities in the 1950s by building the dining hall, tent cities, and classrooms, allowing conference participants to share the experience with their families.
Facts about the Training Center
During the 11-week summer season, 7 to 8 conferences take place every week. The national divisions within Scouting America conduct these conferences.
Up to 6,000 participants and family members may attend Philmont Training Center each summer.
There are over 240 10×12 tents erected each summer to house Philmont Training Center participants. These tents are outfitted with beds and electricity.
